Mary Johnson is a new graduate from an HIT program and has just recently passed the RHIT credentialing examination. While in school, Mary worked part-time as a medical coder in a small rural hospital. Mary focused on taking her HIT program’s coding courses, attended AHIMA’s coding webinars, and participated in AHIMA’s Engage. After graduation and passing her RHIT examination, Mary was hired full-time as the coding supervisor. The issue that has arisen is resentment amongst her now employees concerning her age and advancement as their boss. How should she handle the situation?
